Frequently Asked Questions
Science & Technology
What is recombinant humanized collagen?
A lab-engineered collagen protein designed to closely resemble human collagen, produced without animal-derived ingredients using recombinant DNA technology.
Is this the same collagen found in the human body?
It is recombinant human Type III collagen produced from the human collagen α-chain sequence (100% amino acid homology) manufactured via controlled fermentation.
Why is Colsigen™ not using animal-derived collagen?
Our formulations are based on biotechnology-derived, non-animal proteins to ensure consistency, safety, and ethical sourcing. This approach also minimizes the risk of immune reactions.
Isn't all collagen basically the same?
Not at all. Colsigen™ is based on recombinant humanized type III collagen, bio-identical to what’s naturally found in youthful human skin. Unlike collagen from animals, it offers precise compatibility, better bioavailability, and targeted skin regeneration.
Is Colsigen™ vegan?
Yes. Colsigen contains no animal-derived ingredients. The collagen is produced through recombinant biotechnology using a non-animal fermentation process.
What is the regulatory status of Colsigen™?
Colsigen™ is registered FDA and Swissmedic Class I Medical Device.
Composition & Safety
Is recombinant collagen safe?
Absolutely. It is produced through animal-free recombinant biotechnology in controlled bioreactors, it avoids animal-borne contaminants and ensures a high level of purity and consistency.
Are there fragrances or dyes in Colsigen™?
No. Colsigen™ products are fragrance-free and dye-free to reduce the risk of irritation and support use on sensitive or post-procedure skin.
Why should I use it post laser if it says it is contraindicated for wounds?
Colsigen™ is indicated for superficial wounds, not open wounds where the epidermis has been completely removed.
Can lab-made collagen cause allergies or side effects?
Recombinant humanized collagen is gentle:
– Free from animal-source collagen proteins: Because it is not derived from bovine or porcine sources, it avoids species-related immune reactions sometimes associated with animal collagen.
– Tested for safety: It has undergone rigorous in vitro and in vivo safety evaluations, including skin irritation and sensitization testing.
Why does Colsigen Mist™ have a noticeable odor?
Colsigen Mist™ is formulated without added fragrance. The perceived odor primarily originates from the natural scent of the mixed raw materials, and no masking fragrance is added. In spray form, the odor may be temporarily amplified, which is a normal phenomenon.
Why does Colsigen Mist™ cause coughing?
A possible reason is that Colsigen Mist™ is relatively finely dispersed; when used during inhalation, a small amount of the mist may enter the respiratory tract and trigger the body’s normal protective cough reflex.
It is recommended to apply Colsigen Mist™ at a distance of 15–20 cm from the face. Briefly holding the breath during spraying can significantly reduce this occurrence.
Are there any known side effects?
Colsigen™ is well-tolerated. There have been no side effects observed with the proper use of Colsigen™ products. In rare cases, minor irritation may occur due to individual sensitivities. Discontinue use if irritation persists.
I felt stinging after applying Colsigen Refresh™. Is this normal?
Yes. After procedures like laser treatments, the skin barrier is temporarily weakened. This allows products to penetrate more deeply and can briefly stimulate nerve endings, causing short-lived stinging.
Does this mean that Colsigen™ is irritating or unsafe?
No. The formula contains no fragrance, alcohol, or harsh ingredients and is designed to be gentle. During development, the product was also tested for irritation potential and other biocompatibility parameters, confirming it is safe and well tolerated. Temporary stinging on very sensitive or recently treated skin is a normal response.
How long should it last and when should I worry?
It usually fades within a few minutes. If you get strong pain, persistent redness, swelling, itching, or a rash, stop using it and contact your physician.
Is Colsigen® gluten-free?
Yes. Colsigen® does not contain gluten or gluten-derived ingredients.
Brand & Portfolio
Does Colsigen™ Portfolio replace Stratacel®?
No, Colsigen™ does not replace Stratacel®. Colsigen™ may be used in combination with Stratacel®: first apply Colsigen™ and let it dry, then apply Stratacel® on top to create a semi‑permeable protective barrier which may help maintain the benefits of the Colsigen™ mask ingredients.

Colsigen™ vs Other Ingredients
How is Colsigen™ different from traditional collagen products?
Traditional products often use animal-derived collagen, which may vary in purity and compatibility. Colsigen™ uses recombinant humanized collagen, offering better safety, consistency, and performance for sensitive and post-procedure skin. Many collagen skincare products are marketed as cosmetics and focus on surface-level hydration. Colsigen™ is positioned as a medical device that helps support the skin’s moisture barrier and repair processes, rather than acting as a traditional cosmetic moisturizer.
How is Colsigen™ formulation different from Hyaluronic Acid (HA)?
Unlike hyaluronic acid, which mainly acts as a humectant, Colsigen™ forms a structured, breathable collagen film at the skin surface. This matrix supports moisture retention and creates a protective environment that facilitates the skin’s natural repair processes after superficial procedures.
How is Colsigen™ formulation different from Centella Asiatica?
Colsigen™ offers fundamentally different support compared to Centella Asiatica. Centella is a great botanical soother that helps calm inflammation. Colsigen™, by contrast, features recombinant humanized type III collagen in a protective, bioactive film that hydrates and comforts compromised skin while supporting barrier function.
How is Colsigen™ formulation different from Niacinamide?
Colsigen™ provides immediate structural support by forming a collagen film at the skin surface. Niacinamide supports barrier function through biochemical pathways over time, but does not create a protective matrix.
How is Colsigen™ formulation different from Aloe Vera?
Aloe vera mainly offers surface-level soothing and hydration, with temporary calming effects but no collagen structure or targeted repair for compromised skin. Colsigen™ contains humanized type III collagen that forms a biomimetic, bioactive film—hydrating, soothing, and actively supporting barrier restoration and skin regeneration in a medical-grade way.
How is Colsigen™ different from traditional collagen creams and serums?
Traditional collagen creams and serums primarily provide surface hydration and temporary plumping effects. They typically contain hydrolyzed bovine or marine collagen, which functions mainly as a moisturizing ingredient. Colsigen™, by contrast, contains recombinant humanized Type III collagen that forms a structured, breathable film on the skin surface. This biomimetic matrix supports moisture retention and provides a protective environment that facilitates the skin’s natural recovery processes.
How is Colsigen™ different from collagen injections?
Traditional collagen injections are invasive, localized, higher risk, and focus mainly on adding volume rather than overall skin comfort and recovery. Colsigen™ provides medical‑grade skin recovery without needles, downtime, or animal-derived collagen. It contains recombinant humanized type III collagen that forms a film over the entire treated area, hydrating, soothing, and supporting barrier repair.
How is Colsigen™ different from collagen wound dressing?
Traditional collagen dressings are typically bovine or porcine type I, acting mainly as a passive scaffold that absorbs exudate and protects the wound surface. Colsigen™ uses non-animal derived humanized type III collagen, so it more closely mimics the skin’s own repair matrix than traditional collagen dressing. Colsigen™ instead forms a biomimetic collagen film that hydrates, soothes, and supports barrier restoration and tissue regeneration, making it especially suited for post‑procedure and sensitive skin.
